Donkey Whisperer Farm ® Link line, made with premium soft yacht rope. Walk two donkeys close to the same height using one lead line attached to the Donkey Whisperer Farm ® soft yacht rope halter. The link line has two Stainless Steel (ss) scissor snaps spliced onto each end with a SS O ring spliced in the middle, the length is 24 inches. Size matters when using the link line, walk two miniature donkeys or two burro size donkeys of the same height. The link line will not work with a really short donkey and a tall donkey.
I highly recommend Donkey 101 & 102 Video On Demand to train your donkeys and our halter/lead lines are made to fit a donkey, not a horse. Winter has returned to the farm. We are having a wicked freezing snowy, deep snow storm in the Pacific Northwest. All the donkeys and horses have the choice to go in or out of the stall. All eight equine are standing in their stalls out of the wicked wind chill. Its snowing tiny flakes, the beginning of the storm hit around 8:00 am this morning. Looks like this winter storm will run at least five days or more.
A blanket is like a fire extinguisher we are prepared. We only use the blanket when it is needed. A donkey has arthritis, a donkey is sick, a donkey has vet rest. Planning ahead makes the emergency or trauma a bit easier.
Donkeys evolved from the desert. Donkeys do not do well in the cold weather we must do our best to help them stay warm and healthy. Our weather is in the teens with the wind chill and this is dangerous for a donkey.

Donkeys cannot stand and eat brush all day and night without getting sick. Donkeys are seriously easy keepers. If we do not pay attention to the diet the donkey will get fat, obese and develop insulin resistance, fat deposits on their neck and tummy. Once the fat roll breaks on the neck we can never fix this. Shelter is important for Donkeys
Clean water is a must. Some donkeys do not like a bucket color. Yes donkeys can see in color. Donkeys prefer clean warm water in the winter. Clean is very important. Make sure to keep a little extra hay in the slow feeder. Salt is imperative to drinking water. We chose free lose salt. No selenium in the salt if the hay has selenium. Never feed alfalfa hay to a donkey. No oats, sweet feed, breads, etc., A safe treat is 1 or 2 bites of a one carrot. Thats it. I never give a bite of a carrot for standing and looking cute. I am not a treat dispenser. I give a bite of a carrot for doing something I asked the donkey to do i.e., come to me on 10 acres when I call.

Donkeys are the exotic Desert Equine. Donkeys require a serious diet of low sugar and low protein hay to stay healthy. Shelter and clean water is a must. Donkeys need another donkey to live with to be healthy physically, emotionally and mentally. Donkeys have photographic memories. Donkeys are visual learners. Donkeys require a dry paddock for the majority of their day. Donkeys evolved from the desert. Try creating fences and gates to ensure your donkey gets exercise and eats some green grass for limited amounts of time. Studies have proven if we let our easy keeper equine eat 6:00am to 10:00am the sugar content will be lower in our pastures. Never feed alfalfa hay, grass clippings, bread, or pears, apples to your donkey. A bite of an apple once in a while is safe but too much is going to cause colic. I simply do not feed apples to my donkeys. I love my donkeys and do not want to bury my donkeys. Apples can ferment and there is a chance of colic.
• A male donkey is called a jack.
• ‘Burro’ is the Spanish word for donkey. Wild donkeys in the U.S.A. are called burros.
• A female donkey is called a jenny or jennet.
• A mule is the offspring of a male donkey and a female horse (mare).
• A hinny is the offspring of a male horse (stallion) and a female donkey (jenny).
Donkeys need dry pastures and paddocks as their hooves were made to live in the desert.

All donkeys need a bath when the weather hits 70 degrees or higher at least once a year. Tie the donkeys up together to give the bath as anything new is difficult for the donkey. Donkeys can learn to enjoy a warm bath but it takes time. Hand wash their face do not spray water on the face or inside the ears. Use Anti-fungus shampoo and conditioner. We use the EZ wash wand.
Why do donkeys need a bath? Donkeys have really thick fur trapping fungus and dirt deep into the skin.
Donkeys are self-thinkers, deep thinkers. Brilliant as GOD gave the donkey the gift of problem solving to survive in the desert. Think first, react later most of the time. Horses have speed, horses are the flight equine. Donkeys are seriously into self-preservation.
