I am proud to announce I am now training Rio to wear a combo bit.

My goal for Rio has been to pull a cart safely. We live on a farm close to three highways. Cars, motorcycles, joggers, skate boarders, airplanes and more are passing us on a regular basis.

Rio is an introvert donkey. Meaning how I train him is 100% different from how I train extroverted donkeys and mules. We must have empathy for the introvert, give them time to adapt to change as if we place too much pressure on the introvert donkey, horse or mule they will simply lay down and not get up or explode with anger. Ulcers are directly connected to stress in equine. Please understand animals are just like people they need to have compassion and empathy when training them. We humans must stay a fair leader with a plan each and every time we enter their world. Safety is always number one in my mind when teaching and training both for the human and the equine.

Any equine working in this situations needs a bit for safety. I am training Rio to wear the bit gently. Light hands are a must when I train my horses and donkeys.

I promise to share more updates. Thank you for reading the Donkey Whisperer Farm blog.

    1. Thank you very much. Rio is a Mammoth donkey not a mule. He is 16’2 hands tall and 9 years old. We have had him in our life since he was 9 months old. This boy is a wonderful gift from GOD. Have a great day and thank you for reading my blog. Melody
