Donkey Drinking

Clean water and salt are some of the most important things we can provide our donkeys while living in domestication. Why? Donkeys, mules, and horses will drink more water if it is clean. Provide warm clean water during freezing weather.

Rio our Mammoth donkey and Rocket Man (miniature donkey) will back up and poop in their water when they want it clean. Donkeys are so smart. Remember clean water is the natural prevention of colic along with salt and a slow feeder. We use the hay pillow, slow feeder.

Enjoy your donkeys!

GOD bless you and your family two and four-legged!

Donkeys, Horses, and Mules Love Clean Water

Donkeys are stoic meaning they will not show pain until it too late.

D
onkeys, Mules and Horses will drink more water in the winter if it is clean and warm. Clean fresh water is truly one of the most important things we can do to keep our equine healthy while living in domestication.

Select Water For Wild Horses

Drought in California has not spared the hundreds of horses at Return to Freedom.

In February 2015 our water table dropped and all wells stopped producing. We began trucking water in daily to fill the tanks – costing $466 a day / $3200 a week!

Return To Freedom provides refuge and care for almost 400 wild horses including 28 burros who have been captured from their ranges.

For 16 years RTF has a proven track record as a voice for change. Pioneering innovative management alternatives which have influenced a new direction for sanctuaries and solutions for keeping wild horses free on the range.

Return To Freedom has educated thousands of people a year through programs, volun-tourism both at the sanctuary , on America’s wilderness areas and through national outreach.

We need your help desperately now.

We have a small team who make sure the horses are fed and cared for each and every day. We want to thank our donors for keeping the troughs full- But we need your help to reach beyond our loyal donors. With many people giving alittle we can achieve alot!

With droughts, fuel cost increases and American hay growers selling to Asia, it is not only a challenge to raise the funds to keep up with the inflated hay costs, but now we need to raise funds to buy water – we just cannot do this without your help.

Please help us Fill the Bucket-

Return to Freedom’s Water for Wild Horses Fundraising Campaign will support our work with California Conservation Corps and Sierra Progressive as we move forward on matching grants to continue our water conservation plan at the sanctuary to:

– Increase water catchment
– Implement grey water systems
– Drill a horizontal well in a new location

We have had large holding tanks donated and have not been idle, but with no rain this winter we have to wait and see what water falls in 2016- and be prepared to catch it. In the meantime- we are hauling in 4300 gallons a day!

Please help the horses at Return To Freedom. They continue to serve to educate so many about the plight of wild horses. Each horse at the sanctuary has a story emblematic of tens of thousands more.

Return to Freedom is a 501C3 organization. All donations are sent weekly from Go Fund Me  directly  to Return to Freedom’s Water Fund.

Thank you and please share!

Got Water!

RIO&MELODYM

Friends of the Donkey Whisperer Farm,

We now have water on our new twenty acre farm in Sequim, Washington.

We had our well drilled this week!  Sadly we were not able to be on-site to watch the well work, GOD is amazing as our new neighbors and friends sent us these photos.

Next comes the road and the preparation for the new barn, outdoor arena, round pen, electricity and septic tank.  GOD is amazing as he is helping us manage all of these projects.  If you are new to my blog we purchased twenty acres in Sequim, Washington last August with nothing on it except two pear trees, one apple tree and irrigation to grow our own low sugar orchard hay.
