Why Does My Donkey Have Diarrhea?

Donkeys evolved from the desert. Let’s think about what food sources are in the desert.  When we feed a donkey like a cow or a goat eating green lush grass and brush the donkey gets too much sugar and or protein creating diarrhea. The donkey poop should be hard.  Stress is another sign of diarrhea. Please be sure and learn how to stop diarrhea. Make sure your donkey’s poop goes back to normal quickly and if not call a veterinarian.

All forage hay even straw must be tested to prove 10% or lower in sugar and protein with portion control. Yes blackberries, weeds and green lush brush can cause diarrhea. The hoof abscess is brewing in this environment. The diet must be strict and the donkey needs to live on a dry track or paddock the majority of his/her day.  Donkeys are the exotic equine similar in many ways to the camel requiring a unique diet and dry climate.
