Donkeys Are Not Horses With Long Ears

Donkeys Evolved From The Desert.

A donkey needs a strict diet, no grass clippings, human food such as apples, pears, brush, bread, tall grass, etc., is toxic to a donkey. Donkeys require clean water, warm water in the winter, shelter is a must with no mud.

Signs of extreme health stress start in the neck, stomach and hooves. Please watch the weight of your donkey as an obese donkey is a sick donkey. We have several rescues here on the farm. Take the weight off slowly. Use slow feeders and make sure you are feeding your domesticated donkey (easy keeper) safe hay. Never feed alfalfa to the donkey as this hay is too high in sugar and protein for the desert equine the Donkey.

Please learn all you can about how to care for your exotic desert Donkey. Donkeys are stoic meaning they will not show pain until it is too late. Donkeys require a vet check each year, hooves trimmed correctly on a reg. basis, teeth checked, fecal samples for worms. Hay testing in below 10% sugar. Clean water and most importantly our love. Donkeys love to be groomed and loved on when they are not afraid of their human owner.

If you would like to learn more about how to train your donkey and care for your donkey I am now accepting world-wide virtual students.
