How to Wash and Care for your Donkey, pony, horse or mule Blanket:

Remember that no blanket is 100% waterproof for the entire winter. Once you put the blanket on your equine, you must check for rubs and dampness daily. I keep two blankets ready for our eight equines, six donkeys, and two horses. Why? As I stated above, the blanket can get wet, and I need to add a dry blanket quickly, waiting for the rain to return and remove the blankets. The only donkey I blanket during the rain is Rocket Man, the donkey in the photo wearing the blanket. He is thirty years old and has cushions. Cushing’s make it so donkeys cannot regulate their temperature. He needs a blanket until he is back in his 50s. All my horses and donkeys have shelter; they love sleeping in our barn.

How often do I wash my blankets?

I wash my blankets once a year in the summer, hang them outside, and spray them with a water repellant.
